He started painting at an early age and was accepted to the Professional Scenic Arts High School in Plovdiv, where he graduated in the early 1980s. While in school, Mitovski made his first short animation film on 16mm - "Absurd". The film received an award at a short film festival and was re-shot professionally on 35 mm at the Bulgarian Animation Studios. While actively pursuing his interest in painting, Mitovski made two more short films and also played drums. With his classmates he formed "Band Falconeti Electric" - an electric-rock band, which recorded two unreleased albums. His passion for music was instrumental to his future career as a music video director.
Mitovski continued his education in the National Academy for Theatre and Film Arts "Krastyo Sarafov" specializing in directing for film and animation under Professor Donyo Donev. His first breakthrough came while still a student with the video "Composer" of the legendary Bulgarian pop-rock band FSB (Grammy award winners in 1990). With its innovative vision "Composer" soon became the most popular and beloved music video in the country. A few years later Mitovski made a feature-length documentary about the band, noted again for its brave visual style and innovative approach to the genre. His video of FSB's song "High" was awarded Best Bulgarian Music Video of the Year in 1997. Mitovski continued directing music videos and commercials, winning many local and international awards for his work.
His first major fiction film recognition came in 2005 when his short film "Get the Rabbit Back"(co-directed with Kamen Kalev ) was nominated for the Critics' Week at the Cannes Film Festival. In 2007 the follow-up short "Rabbit Troubles"(also co-directed with Kamen Kalev) was nominated again for the Critics' Week. The two shorts are part of a surreal trilogy with thriller elements. The third film is in pre-production.
In 2009 Mitovski directed his first feature film "Mission London", an eccentric political satire based on Alek Popov's novel of the same name. The film opened on April 16, 2010 and topped the Bulgarian box office, becoming the highest grossing 2D film in Bulgaria since the fall of Communism in 1989.
Mitovski is among the founding producers of SIA Corp. and Camera Ltd - two of the most successful film and television production companies in Bulgaria. Besides feature films, the portfolio of the companies includes more than 2000 commercial videos and productions of some of the most popular international non-scripted television formats. In its first season "Glass Home" became the most successful Bulgarian TV series of all time. The most underrated of the French directors of the post-WW2 era ? This one, arguably. An educated man ,with a passion for history,Henri Calef (1910-1994) began his career in 1945.His second effort ("Jericho") ranked among the best French movies dealing with resistance during WW2."Les Chouans" was a fine adaptation of Balzac's novel."La Maison Sous La Mer" depicted a desperate love story ,casting against type vamp Viviane Romance ,and taking advantage of Claude Renoir's stunning cinematography."Bagarres" ,a rural chronicle, reminded the viewer of Zola's naturalism but Calef's masterpiece remained , no contest , "Eaux Troubles" a somber story filmed on location near the Mont Saint Michel using the landscapes as nobody did (or would) and containing scenes to rival the best of Duvivier or Clouzot."La Souricière " ended his heyday: a good thriller in which a young lawyer had to defend a thief who confessed he was also a murderer . Things began to deteriorate beyond that point ,although "La Passante" ,filmed on location along a canal, had its moments and " Les Amours Finissent A L'Aube " was a curious thriller in which a husband would cheat on his wife and take care of her at the same time.On the other hand ,"Ombres Et Lumières " ,starring Simone Signoret, went back to the American Freudian thrillers of the forties and seemed obsolete at time of release. But "L'Heure De Vérité" (1963) filmed on location in Israel and dealing with people still haunted by the concentration camps nearly matched the 1945-1949 brilliance .it seems best consider this movie Calef's swansong ,for his last one ,"Feminin Feminin"(1971) ,which tackled lesbianism ,was the most distressingly mediocre movie of his whole career. He called it quits afterward ,and occasionally worked for TV on historical subjects. It's obvious that Calef's best movies should be reassessed.- Actor
